Io sto con la sposa (On the Bride’s Side)

Antonio Augugliaro, Gabriele del Grande, and Khaled Soliman Al Nassiry, Io sto con la sposa (On the Bride’s Side), 2014, 89 min.

“In Milan, a Palestinian poet and an Italian journalist meet five Palestinians and Syrians who had fled the war to Lampedusa, and decide to help them continuing their journey toward Sweden. To avoid being arrested as traffickers, they decide to simulate a wedding, getting a Palestinian friend to dress up as the bride and a dozen or so Italian and Syrian friends as wedding guests. Disguised like this, they cross halfway over Europe in a three thousand kilometre journey that takes four days. An emotionally laden journey which, as well as bringing out the stories and hopes and dreams of the five fleeing Palestinians and Syrians and their special traffickers, also reveals an unknown side of Europe. A transnational, supportive and irreverent Europe that makes fun of the laws and restrictions of the Fortress in a masquerade that seems incredible, but which is no other than the direct filming of a story that really happened on the road from Milan to Stockholm from the 14th to the 18th of November 2013.”
